The Science Behind Gout
Gout is really very simple. You have so much uric acid in your blood that the concentration is higher than what is tequired for crystallization. The crystals form in areas of the body with low blood circulation and temperature - which means your feet in most cases. The body reacts to the foreign matter with inflammation. That causes a swelling which puts pressure on the nerves. Which causes excruciating pain.
THE DEVIL IN THE DETAILS
Like all explanations about scientific theories concerning complex systems the explanation above is oversimplified. There are a lot of details which are different between individuals. The crysyallization concentration can be different, the gout can appear in different places than the big toe, there can be pain and swelling in multiple places in the body, and so on.
