Today is Halloween.. No trick or treating this year. The kids figured it out and got candy to exchange with their friends already. Breakfast: Pancake sandwiches made by my daughters. The only problem was too much ham and sausages. Lunch: We went to a restaurant that served modern traditional Japanese cuisine. This sounds very fancy but places which serve curry, something on rice, gratins and spaghettis are incredibly common. But this was a step above most - although it was far cheaper. I had a homemade calzone-style pizza, which was great. But I got too much taste of the others food, which had a lot of meat or seafood.
Dinner: I made a pumpkin and carrot quiche which was rather successful. No purines, just a little fat, just a little salt. I will put the recipe on the gout recipe page. Todays supplements and dosage: 4 teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a big glass of water. Todays UA reading: 8.7 mg/dl, so long and thanks to the fish! Fishy, fishy, he used to follow me wherever I would go. Todays step count: 10109 steps. This weeks weight: 123.4 kg. Not much weight loss happening yet.

Today was pretty uneventful from a gout perspective, except that I probably ate too much sugar. And that fish for dinner may show up tomorrow.
Breakfast: Yesterdays stew with egg scramble, rice, and vegetable soup. Lunch: Carrot croquettes - easy to make and yummy, but be careful with the oil. Read the recipe here. Snack: Cereal and milk. Leftover from my sons breakfast. Dinner: Rice with egg topping, gyoza (Japanese dumplings), and fried fish (delicious). Todays supplements and dosage: 4 teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a big glass of water. Todays UA reading: 8.9 mg/dL Todays step count: 11037 steps Today there was no time for a morning walk, due to some activities the kids had.
Breakfast: Yesterdays soup with mochi (pounded rice cake). Kiwi and raspberries. Lunch: Soup, my homemade aubergine cheese gratin, and kiwi for dessert. Snack: Crackers. Bat- and pumpkin-shaped. It is halloween. Dinner: Yesterdays soup with eggs in it over rice. But there was quite a bit of meat left in it. Wonder if I will see it in the UA level tomorrow? Tomatoes, cucumber salad, and rice. Cheese for dessert. Todays supplements and dosage: 4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a big glass of water. Todays UA reading: 11.1 mg/dL, so maybe I got too much of the meat from the shabu-shabu hotpot after all. Todays step count: 7254 steps. Nothing gout-affecting should happen today. Better try to eat a bit healthier than yesterday, the jump in UA reading is consistent with the high-purine meal I had for lunch.
Breakfast: Udon noodles in yesterdays vegetable soup. Lunch: Three sandwiches: Guacamole, cream cheese, butter. Cream cheese with a bit of freshly ground black pepper is delicious. Snack: Leftover onigiri from yesterday, plus a couple of sushi rolls the kids did not eat. Dinner: shabu-shabu, which actually is a kind of hot pot. It is possible to do with any suitable food, like some mushrooms and vegetables (thin leafy vegetables, or microscopically thin slices of root vegetables like daikon).. Or you can use meat and let your kids eat it. Todays supplements and dosage: 4 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in a large glass of water. Todays UA reading: 9.7 mg/dL, and I got a much lower reading at first so I decided to test again. And then I fumbled so I had to do it again.... Todays step count: 12856 steps So excited to try a new supplement, although it supposedly has health benefits known for generations. Well, my parents had never heard about them until they were in their forties.
Breakfast: Spinach and bacon omelet, corn soup, kiwi fruit, coffee, brioche (from France - you can find the most amazing things at Costco). Lunch: Leftovers - lasagna, fried rice, sausages. And my wife wanted to try the "sottoku" from the Ministop cenvenience store too. It was a kind of wieners in mochi wrapper. Definitely something the kids may eat (if you leave off the spicy sauce). Snack: No snack, I had too much for lunch. Dinner: Vegetable hotpot, and then we pigged out on fruits which were close to its best-before date. When persimmons become just a tad overripe they become liquified, and sweet as honey. Todays supplements and dosage: 4 teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar in a big glass of water, since I am going to try if ACV can help against gout and lower uric acid for two weeks from now. Todays UA reading: 6.5 mg/dL (I hope the ACV does not lower it below 3, that would cause a new problem). Todays step count: 11765 steps. This weeks weight: 123.6 kg, just in case the claims of weight loss are true. The kids had soccer practice in the evening and we rode our bicycles there, 15 min in each direction.
Breakfast: Sandwich, green smoothie, and spinach and corn sausage stir-fry. The kids got all the sausages (before I could get to them). Lunch: Last of my vegetable soup, plus a sandwich. And a few danishes with various fillings from Costco. Snack: A cheese sandwich. Dinner: Fried rice with sausages (guess what happened to them?) and Korean kimchi. Todays supplements and dosage: None. But tomorrow I will start on the apple cider vinegar. Todays UA reading: 6.8 mg/dL, right on the theoretical threshhold for uric acid crystal formation. I say theoretical because as so often in the body there are a lot of "it depends". But it is worth noting that a couple of days on an almost purine-free diet brings down the uric acid concentration. Todays step count: 12127 steps. Today we returned the library books from two weeks ago so we would not get late fees. It rained but stopped while we were there, so we got to see a double rainbow. And then my son spotted a wild deer next to the road.
Breakfast: Bread, cheese, and some of the soup I made yesterday. There is enough for several lunches too. Lunch: Ramen (Japanese noodles). I tried to find one without meat or seafood, that seems to be the easiest way to keep my UA level down. Snack: No snack today. Dinner: Lasagna plus the last of my home-made vegetable stew and some tofu meat. Todays supplements and dosage: None. Todays UA reading: 5.0 mg/dL, no attack risk today and it shows how important a purine-free diet can be. Even if it was not the healthiest diet day I ever had. Todays step count: 19225 steps. Beautiful weather, we brought out the family bicycles and took a ride through the autumn leaves to the nearby bakery cafe.
Breakfast: Bread at the nearby bakery cafe. Lunch: Traditiional Japanese buckwheat noodles with mountain herbs. Snack: Half an icecream that I shared with my wife. Dinner: Korean Sundubu Chige with toppogi, tofu, rice and kimchi; tofu with mountain herbs; pickled vegetables. And French fries, since we accidentally ordered twice as much as the kids wanted. Todays supplements and dosage: None. Todays UA reading: 7.1 mg/dL. Todays step count: 8746 steps This weeks weight: 123.4 kg The weather forecast says rain until evening. No walk today, I guess.
Breakfast: Yesterdays vegetable hotpot (with sausages for the kids) that we skipped due to the kids having eaten a big snack. Lunch: There was still hotpot left, and I had also baked some bread (in the baking machine). Snack: Chocolate again. But it was low-carbohydrate. You can tell it hardly has any sugar. Dinner: We went to a nearby Italian restaurant. They have great salads and pizza, and their vongole pasta is to die for. And the desserts! Todays supplements and dosage: None. Todays UA reading: 9.1 mg/dL, so still too high for comfort - I may be getting monosodium urate crystal buildup somewhere. Todays step count: 3285 steps. It was raining. Thursday. Friday tomorrow.
Breakfast: Smoothie, omelets, and some leftover onigiri from yesterday. And I stole a few of the kids sausages. Lunch: My root vegetable stew in cheese gratin. Just take a couple of cheese slices and put them on top of the stew in a ceramic pan, then pop it into the microwave until the cheese has melted. Plus soup from day before yesterday. Snack: Cheese and mini-tomatoes, and what was left of the smoothie from this morning. Way too sweet. Dinner: The kids had a big snack, so we just had sandwiches. And minitomatoes. Todays supplements and dosage: None. Todays UA reading: 9.1 mg/dL, that mackerel sure was rich in purines. Todays step count: 11393 steps. |
