A few months ago my daughter had a urinary tract infection that spread to her kidneys. We got rid of it but the doctor did a series of X-rays that showed that when she holds her pee, it results in the urine pushing back up to the kidney. If there is bacteria in it from a urinary tract infection, they get pushed up there too.
You do not want impaired kidney function if you have gout. If both your kidneys can not get rid of all the uric acid your liver is producing, what do you think would happen if you had only one kidney? You would be accumulating much more uric acid and get more frequent gout attacks. So be careful - especially if you are a woman, and women are more susceptible to urinary tract infections than men (due to the different piping).
