The purines are used to create enzymes, which are part of the energy production cycle of your body. The enzymes interact with the energy-rich molecules to break them down further, into sugars and energy transportation molecules (called ATP). When ATP is broken down in the body by the enzymes created from the purines, the energy it contains is released and one of the end products is uric acid. Your body releases some of it through the lower intestine, but the rest is released through the urine.
